Court Clerk supports paralegals with various tasks required in the preparation of materials for court cases. Inputs and maintains tracking data for all case materials. Being a Court Clerk obtains requested files and assembles required materials for court proceedings. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Court Clerk typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Court Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Security Officer

    Description:

    This is a full time, non-exempt position and is covered under the Saint Joseph County Employee Policy Manual and St. Joseph Probate Court Policy Manual.

    Hours: This position will require a great deal of flexibility to meet the staffing needs of the security department and the agency.

    Days: Monday through Friday

    Essential Functions:

    Security Staff is responsible for providing security at the entrances to the facility, court security, internal security, perimeter security, and parking lot security. Some transportation of detainees to local facilities may also be required. Investigation of incidents within the facility and the filing of reports to the Director of Security may be required. The following are representative of some duties and responsibilities of the Security Officer, but are not limited to these duties alone:

    • Provide security at entrance to the facility.
    • Operate the magnetometer and x-ray machines.
    • Check all bags and purses.
    • Operate the security booth at the main entrance.
    • Check in weapons from law enforcement officers.
    • Make regular security sweeps of the public portion of the facility.
    • Make regular security sweeps of the complete exterior of the facility.
    • Provide security assistance to staff leaving the facility at night.
    • Respond to security needs in the parking lot or on the grounds of the facility.
    • Provide security during transportation of juveniles when requested.
    • Transport juveniles to other facilities when requested.
    • Work with local law enforcement and fire department during emergencies.
    • Work with the County Police Department for Court Security.
    • Identify security needs for the facility and report to the Director of Security.
    • Inspect magnetometers and or X-ray machines to make sure they are in working order.
    • Investigate incidents as required in non-secure parts of the facility and file reports.
    • Check and maintain all county vehicles that are driven by staff
    • Escort detained juveniles when authorized
    • Observe drug screens as needed
    • Provide court room security.
    • Provide assistance in detention as needed or required
    • Any and all duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATION: A minimum of a high school diploma and continuous education in the area of security and investigations required. Training and certification in the area of law enforcement is preferred.

    DIRECT REPORT: This position reports directly to the Director of Security.

    EXPERIENCE: Training and certification in security and law enforcement procedures required.

    SKILLS: This position is a people intensive position. Positive interaction with individuals entering the facility is required. This position requires the ability to stop, search, and direct people in a diplomatic manner. The security officer must possess a valid drivers license. Additional skills:

    -Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, detainees, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.

    -Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.

    -Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

    -Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with violent/irate individuals.

    -Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instruction and present findings in oral or written form.
