Court Reporter documents court proceedings by using a stenotype machine. May require completion of a 2-4 year training program at a vocational school. Being a Court Reporter has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Additionally, Court Reporter works under immediate supervision. What You Will Do
- Record verbatim proceedings of courts, legislative assemblies, committee meetings, and other proceedings, using stenograph machines
- Prepare accurate final transcript per client’s request / Submit final ASCII via online portal
- Proofread transcripts for correct spelling of words
- Ask speakers to clarify inaudible statements
- Transcribe recorded proceedings in accordance with established formats

What You Will Need
- Certified Shorthand Reporters (CSR) license, where applicable
- NCRA Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification, if your state does not offer a license
