  • Summary/Objective

    At R.I.A. Federal Credit Union, the primary focus of the Collection Clerk is to improve the financial well-being of our members. Provide a variety of clerical duties pertaining to the collection of delinquent accounts and consumer loan processing including but not limited to preparation of documents, maintaining spreadsheets and correspondence. This is accomplished through:

    • Relationships: Building relationships is integral to the success of R.I.A. As a community credit union, R.I.A.s Collection Clerk will invest the time to get to know members and take care of their needs while finding opportunities to improve their financial well-being.
    • Integrity: In an era of big banks and big data, operating with integrity is becoming a more difficult trait to find in a financial institution. An R.I.A. Collection Clerk is committed to handling members finances and data in a manner that is ethical, transparent, and professional.
    • Action: Not content with business as usual, R.I.A. is action oriented. From helping a member solve a financial challenge to positively impacting the community through volunteering and sponsorships, R.I.A. is motivated to action.

    • Learn and Educate: Maintain current knowledge of credit union philosophy, services, policies and procedures. Comply with all laws and regulations that are applicable to the duties outlined in this job description and any other duties you may be assigned including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Control (OFAC) Policies, procedures and regulations. Must maintain current knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws and regulations as they pertain to this job description ensuring proper collection and supervisory policies and procedures are followed.
    • Interact: Creating a pleasant experience for R.I.A. members is vital. Cooperate with all coworkers and other personnel to ensure team effort and prompt member service. Promote and maintain a positive image of the credit union to all personnel, members, management and the community.
    • Perform: Prepare correspondence and forms relative to repossessions and the sale or redemption of such and document activity in collection software system, spreadsheets, and /or files. Prepare documents related to bankruptcies such as proofs of claim and reaffirmations and manage correspondence with attorney involved. Prepare initial correspondence on litigations and follow up with attorney for status. Process the reversal of loan payments as directed by supervisor. Request and process refunds from dealerships and other vendors of add-on such as warranties, GAP insurance, life and disability insurance, etc. and monitor the progress following up as needed. Process loan payments from various sources such as bankruptcy trustees, insurance companies, collection agencies, sale proceeds, etc. as directed by supervisor.
    • Uncover and Refer: As a not-for-profit financial institution, we have a responsibility to uncover opportunities to improve the financial well-being of those with whom we interact Assist in the review of dispersed loans, the tracking of missing documents (i.e. disclosures, titles, loss payables), and the collection of such. Assist in the process of reports and maintenance of spreadsheets or programs relative to collections and loans. Maintain orderly files with attention to complete and accurate detailing of all correspondence, documents or problems. Verify, scan, and purge documents as directed.
    • Compliance/Security: A strong understanding and adherence to Policies and Procedures is a requirement for success as a Collection Clerk at R.I.A. Maintain the security of your work area and the department keeping it organized and neat in appearance. Maintain and enforce maximum security over valuables and documents on hand according to policies and procedures. Ensure that all information and transactions regarding members, co-workers, personnel and other credit union business are kept confidential. Protect and respect credit union property, equipment and supplies.
    • Train/Cross-Train: Maintain ongoing communication with your supervisor informing them of all pertinent problems, irregularities, new developments, changes or other important information within area of responsibility. Attend and participate in meetings as required. Participate in continuing education as requested.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to spend considerable time sitting at a desk, complete work using a computer, regularly answer phone calls, and interact with employees at all levels of the organization. The employee will occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.

    Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. While normal hours of work and days for R.I.A. Federal Credit Union are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., hours for this position reflect branch attendance but may vary based on job related requirements.

    Travel

    Less than 10% travel.

    Required Education and Experience

    • Education High School diploma or equivalent, required.
    • Experience in lending process and or/clerical management, preferred.
