The Curriculum Developer II conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Being a Curriculum Developer II develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. In addition, Curriculum Developer II writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Being a Curriculum Developer II occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.       Job Summary
      The Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator develops and maintains the Anchorage School District’s Social Studies program. The program’s focus on adult learning and program implementation grounded in the common core state and the national C3 Framework of College, Career and Civic Life. The coordinator assists with the development of adult learning opportunities and the vision of an articulated, innovative 21st century civics program. The position recommends and implements changes to assure program integrity, continuous cycles of improvement, relevance, and researched best instructional practices across grade levels K–12. This certificated position reports to and is evaluated by the senior director of Teaching and Learning. This position has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS).

      Job Requirements
      The following are required:
      • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited university.
      • A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate by start date.
      • Three years of successful educational teaching.
      • Experience leading and designing adult learning, with a focus on leading and learning through continuous cycles of improvement.

      The following is preferred:
      • A master’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited university.
      • Possession of a type B administrative certificate.
      • A strong understanding of social studies content, state and national standards, researched best-practices in instruction, assessment, collaborative learning, and data-based decision making.
      • Knowledge and experience in curriculum implementation science.
      • Experience working with district-level and school-level teams providing support for instructional improvement and decision-making.

      Essential Job Functions
      • Implements the Teaching and Learning Department action plan for social studies curriculum, assessment, and adult professional learning for grades K through 12.
      • Leads the district in maintaining and ensuring a consistent rigorous and equitable social studies education experience across all schools based on national best practices and differentiated instruction.
      • Coordinates across departments and divisions within ASD to implement a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for all students.
      • Maintains an ongoing presence in schools to develop strong professional relationships with teachers and administrators.
      • Coordinates and leads ASD curricular review work and advisory groups for the social studies content area.
      • Facilitates teacher groups in the development of curriculum aligned with district-approved standards. Designs and presents professional learning opportunities to implement district curriculum.
      • Facilitates teacher groups in the development, implementation, and analysis of common assessments in social studies.
      • Schedules and chairs regular meetings which include but are not limited to department chairs and other content-specific advisory groups.
      • Serves as a point of contact for collaborating with community partnerships, universities, and state and national organizations with a goal of promoting social studies education.
      • Provides assistance responsive to the specific needs of the school and school staff. Demonstrates lessons for teachers to observe, and works with school-based PLCs and teaching teams to design and implement Lesson Study Cycles.
      • Assists with writing and facilitating grants to further district and department objectives and initiatives.
      • Exhibits knowledge of and keeps abreast of current research findings and recent trends in social studies education.
      • Maintains the confidentiality of school and student records.

      Physical /Mental Demands
      The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
