PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The High School (9-12) Curriculum Specialist provides leadership and campus support for the advancement of student achievement in his/her content area. The Curriculum Specialist writes and develops the curricula to support the assigned content, provides coaching to campuses and ensures alignment of assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Curriculum writing experience
- Professional development design and presentation experience
- Five years’ job related experience
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Leadership experience at the campus level and/or district level
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Five years’ classroom experience
- Experience with multiple grade levels
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Expert in assigned content area
- Ability to provide direction for campus leadership
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to coordinate District functions
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Direct the implementation of core content curricula across the district.
- Assisting with coaching teachers and campus administrators in the critical attributes of instruction and student engagement.
- Understanding of the correlation with college career readiness standards with state standards.
- Articulate understanding of accountability and special programs.
- Remain current on educational research and instructional best practices and apply research and data to improve student engagement and achievement.
- Model, coach and commit to personal improvement in best instructional practices and techniques.
- Design and coordinate support for campuses in lesson design and instructional engagement and practices.
- Plan and provide effective professional learning activities based on analysis of data.
- Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
- Articulate the District’s goals and needs to the community and solicit support in reaching those goals.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Required to work extended hours as needed.
