Curriculum Specialist, Sr. designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Conducts skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Specialist, Sr. consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Specialist, Sr. writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Evaluates the software or collaboration tools to be selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. May coach trainers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Curriculum Specialist, Sr. work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters.   • The Sr. Curriculum Development Specialist is a twelve-month position that will work collaboratively with content area experts, teachers, administrators, and members of the Department of Catholic Schools’ team to develop curriculum documents and aligned resources. In addition, this position will work with teachers to understand and implement the written curriculum, and with administrators to understand and be able to monitor the implementation of the curriculum.

    The individual will coach and provide constructive feedback to teachers and administrators. The Sr. Curriculum Development Specialist must have successful experience developing and revising curricular materials. 

    The individual will need strong knowledge of formative and summative assessment, curriculum calendars, curriculum maps, standards, and the ability to integrate our Catholic faith into the curriculum. The Sr. Curriculum Development Specialist will report to the Superintendent of Catholic Schools as a member of the Academic Services Team.

    The Sr. Curriculum Development Specialist will be goal-oriented and able to manage large projects while assisting local schools with their individual needs and questions. Further, excellent preparation, collaboration, communication, and presentation skills are required to lead and empower continuous improvement.

     

    Essential Functions:

    • Works collaboratively with the team at the Department of Catholic Schools, administrators, and teachers to develop curriculum documents and resources.  
    • Engage in continuous professional learning with other technology specialists to deepen content expertise.
    • Actively participate with the Director of Instruction and Professional Development and the Manager of Educational Technology in the planning and production of webinars and sessions related to the written curriculum.
    • Utilize research-based instructional technology teaching strategies as drivers in planning and coaching.
    • Model and assist teachers in the effective use of the curriculum materials as a guide to design differentiated, rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning for all students.
    • Coach teachers and model learning experiences that promote higher-order thinking skills, differentiation, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and data analysis.
    • Provide critical and appropriate feedback and support.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic curriculum planning at the Archdiocesan level.
    • Support the communication with administrators, teachers, and parents regarding what students are expected to know and to be able to do at each grade level.
    • Responsible for scheduling and traveling to schools on an as-needed basis.
    • Travel to, participate in, and when able - present at local and national conferences, provided within the budget.
    •  Collaborate with the associate superintendents to align work with specific goals and outcomes identified.
    •  Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Position Qualifications:

    • A minimum of five years of elementary, middle, or high school teaching and/or administrative experience is required.
    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's Degree in Education preferred.
    • Active Maryland State Certification.
    • Extensive knowledge of teaching techniques, curriculum, and staff development.
    • Extensive knowledge of the Catholic faith. Our final candidate must be a practicing Catholic.
    • Experience with online differentiated learning applications.
    • Experience with the use of technology (in particular, Google Classrooms, Basecamp, and Microsoft Office applications). 
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Use of critical thinking skills to make recommendations based on analysis of a variety of factors, including assessing teaching methods, instructional materials, and student performance data.
    • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to form positive professional relationships.
