Job Summary

The HIMS Clerk is responsible for accurate and timely clerical and filing duties in the HIMS area including inpatient and outpatient records and statistical, and secretarial functions as directed that may include DRG/APC, data entry, Daily Census, and assisting with Performance Improvement projects as directed.

Position Qualifications

High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent, basic typing and filing skills, working knowledge of medical terminology and the English language, Bilingual in Spanish preferred, basic knowledge of PC computer functions and word processing such as Microsoft Word2000 or equivalent and spreadsheet software such as Excel.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Filing
• Works with Lead on monthly quality audits and reports.
• Establishes and maintains client files and correspondence. Collects and process information required from records and reports.
• Answers the telephone, takes messages and processes telephone requests.
• Requires a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  
• Process Release of Information request in compliance with State, Federal and hospital regulations.
• Monitor chart delinquency.
  

Medical Record Retention and Storage:

• Responsible for purging of medical record charts to storage and implementation of retention procedure for appropriate and confidential destruction of records.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment. 

Experience: Microsoft word, Excel, Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite) computer skills for a variety of support functions. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
