    Overview

    The West Segment Strategic Marketing Manager will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing on growth opportunities that enhances Summit Materials’ continued profitable growth in alignment with the company’s overall corporate strategy. This role will be a key member of Summit’s Strategy & Growth team.

    This role is responsible for developing and deploying organic and inorganic growth strategies. This includes facilitating bolt-on acquisitions and partnerships. Regularly integrating with end users, direct customers, channel partners, competitors, regulators & industry advisors to identify relevant industry trends, changes in the competitive landscape, and changes in customer behaviors. Responsible for translating market insights into prioritized organic growth by targeting customer segment, value pricing, product portfolio, channel, and demand generation strategies. This role will regularly present research, business plans and recommendations to Summit Materials’ executive leadership team.

    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Gather and analyze market data, industry trends, and customer intelligence to identify market opportunities and potential risks; conduct thorough research and evaluation of customer needs, preferences, and behaviors to inform strategic decision-making, segmentation and sales initiatives
    • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track market share, customer satisfaction, market sizing and overall business performance as well as then translating this into actionable insights and recommendations; develop comprehensive go-to-market strategies for specific segments and offerings to drive growth.
    • Conduct regular assessments of competitors' strategies, product offerings, and pricing to identify areas of opportunity and competitive differentiation; provide insights and recommendations on competitive positioning.
    • Identify distribution channels, pricing strategies, and define compelling value propositions to ensure Summit’s offerings and customer experiences are clearly differentiated.
    • Direct cross-functional teams to execute a wide variety of discrete strategy projects including value chain analysis, value pricing, share gain with existing customer segments, growth with new customer segments, geographic expansions/exits, reserves & production/delivery capacity evaluations, logistics & import strategies, etc.
    • Author investment business cases with accompanying financial forecasts and return models.
    • Work closely with the Corporate M&A team to execute on bolt-on acquisitions including leading large, cross-functional teams and external advisors through due diligence and in the development of financial model assumptions.
    • Lead annual strategic planning for the West segment across its multiple business lines including aggregates, ready mix concrete, hot mix asphalt and construction services to establish where to play and how to win including well-defined roadmaps to achieve Summit’s strategic and financial objectives.
    • Regularly present industry analyses and business strategies to the company’s senior executives

    Education & Experience:

    • BA or BS
    • Prior experience in strategy, marketing, business intelligence, market research or related roles

    Other:

    • Proven ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional teams.
    • History of creating and delivering senior executive level presentations.
    • Experience in authoring business plans and/or investment business cases including financial forecasting will be considered a strong plus.

    Preferred Experience:

    • MBA strongly preferred
    • Prior experience with a strategy consulting firm
    • Prior construction materials industry experience

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
