The Role
As the Credit Risk Manager, you’ll play a critical role in managing Podium’s credit risk exposure within our payments and lending products for local businesses. You’ll develop, implement, and monitor credit risk policies, work cross-functionally to enhance underwriting models, and ensure a balanced approach to growth and risk mitigation. This role requires expertise in credit risk management, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of local business needs and behaviors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Monitor Credit Risk Policies: Design, implement, and monitor credit risk policies and strategies tailored to Podium’s suite of payments and financing products.
- Underwriting and Risk Scoring: Collaborate with data science and product teams to create and refine underwriting models and risk scoring mechanisms that are both scalable and adaptable for local businesses.
- Portfolio Risk Management: Analyze portfolio performance, monitor risk indicators, and ensure that risk exposure remains within acceptable parameters. Identify trends, issues, and opportunities to mitigate risk.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Customer Success teams to align risk management practices with product development, legal requirements, and customer satisfaction goals.
- Reporting and Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, prepare regular risk assessment reports, and present findings to senior leadership.
- Risk Mitigation Strategies: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, including credit loss forecasts, reserve calculations, and collection processes.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Business, or related field. Advanced degree (MBA, MS) or relevant certification (e.g., CFA, FRM) is a plus.
- Experience: 5 years of experience in credit risk management, preferably within a Fintech environment focused on SMBs.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in risk modeling and analysis software.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a proven track record of making data-driven decisions.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of credit risk regulations and compliance standards relevant to financial services.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to distill complex concepts for diverse audiences.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
