Policy Analyst
The Center for Data Innovation is seeking a Policy Analyst to focus on technological innovation in e-commerce and retail, including issues such as autonomous delivery, warehouse automation, digital payments, product liability, consumer reviews, organized retail crime, online advertising, duties and import taxes, and counterfeits and illicit goods.
The ideal applicant should not only be an excellent researcher who can quickly produce high-quality written reports and articles, but also an engaging public speaker and social media pundit who is committed to advancing digital innovation to spur economic growth and improve quality of life. The applicant should have a deep understanding of existing tech policy debates, including artificial intelligence, data protection, digital trade, platform regulation, and cybersecurity, and be willing to use evidence and logic to challenge conventional wisdom when appropriate.
The Center for Data Innovation brings an unapologetically pro-innovation perspective to tech policy. The Center is part of the nonprofit, nonpartisan Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the world’s leading think tank for science and technology policy.
This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. and reporting to the Center’s director. The salary for this position will be $60,000 - $90,000, depending on experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Write reports, blog posts, op-eds, and government filings on relevant digital policy issues.
- Organize, host, and speak at conferences, panel discussions, debates, and other policy events.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders involved in digital policy, including policymakers, thought leaders, media, and other key influencers.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience and interest in relevant policy issues.
- Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Superior communication skills, both oral and written, including an ability to write clear, succinct, and persuasive research papers, op-eds, and blog posts.
- A successful track record analyzing technology policy issues and educating policymakers about the impact of legislative or regulatory proposals.
- Highly proactive, independent, and flexible, with an ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to network and build relationships with outside organizations.
- Graduate degree (or equivalent experience) in public policy, economics, political science, law, statistics, information science, computer science, or a related field.
