    Duties
  • You will create an implementation strategy and detailed plan to cover the lifecycle of COLUMBIA (CLB) Class submarines.
  • You will plan out the course of action with respect to technical factors such as how often system components will need to be changed or updated.
  • You will determine the required budget for that maintenance, including the specific needs for out-year budget cycles within the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP).
  • You will account for the logistical challenge of carrying out updates and maintenance within submarine availability periods.
  • You will lead the integration between multiple vendors and other government activities supporting the CLB Program and champion the CLB Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HME) lifecycle maintenance plan across HME System Integration Teams.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.


  • Qualifications

    Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist evaluating the development of lifecycle engineering or cybersecurity for systems.

    Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

    ND-0801: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

    Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.     Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

    Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in computer science

    OR

    Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
