Sonoma Technology is seeking an Air Quality Data Scientist to join our Data Science Department. The successful candidate will work on projects involving ambient and/or emissions data to better understand local and regional air pollution levels and sources. We are looking for candidates who have a strong scientific background and are excited to perform hands-on work covering a wide range of air quality data.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct technical analyses using ambient air quality and meteorological data, such as quality control, data validation, and data analysis of high-time resolution data.
• Visualize, analyze, and interpret ambient air quality and/or model data.
• Apply statistical methods to assess ambient air quality and/or model data.
• Investigate spatial and temporal patterns of ambient air quality, model, and/or emissions data to support international, national, regional, and local-level air quality assessments.
• Prepare technical reports and communicate results to clients and other scientific researchers.
• Work with interdisciplinary teams in a collaborative, applied research environment.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• A BS or MS degree in the physical sciences, environmental sciences, or engineering, with a focus on air quality or atmospheric science.
• A strong interest in air quality and environmental science.
• Ability to create scientifically sound and clear written products such as journal manuscripts.
• Excellent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability and willingness to learn through on-the-job internal and external training.

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of atmospheric processes.
• Proficiency in a data science and analysis platform (e.g., Python, R, IDL).
• Experience or familiarity with GIS technology (ArcMap) or satellite data analysis software (ENVI or IMAGINE).
• Experience with spatial statistics.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $90,000
