Collaborates with users to design, code, test, debug, and deploy databases that meet requirements and organizational needs. Being a Database Engineer writes queries, stored procedures and functions for database development. Monitors databases' performance, scalability, and security and modifies procedures to optimize database designs. Additionally, Database Engineer evaluates existing database design to determine necessary updates, performance tuning, and integration requirements. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of database technologies and solid coding and computer system skills. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Database Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Database Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.     DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide enterprise class relational database management system administration and analysis support for disparate database systems and architecture.
    • Install, maintain, deploy, manage, and harden DMBS; troubleshoot and remediate issues; and recommend updates/solutions to improve the quality of the service for the enterprise.
    • Analyze and plan for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements.
    • Install and configure database management systems and software.
    • Perform backup and recovery of databases to ensure data integrity.
    • Provide recommendations on new database technologies and architectures.
    • Identify data consolidation opportunities across database systems, including data sharing and access. 
    • Monitor and maintain databases to ensure optimal performance.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    • A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science.
    • Must meet at least one of the following baseline certifications in lieu of education:
      CASP or CCNP Security or CISA or CISSP or CISSP-ISSAP or CISSP-ISSEP.
    • Must meet designated Computing Environment (CE) certifications within 6 months of hire: CIO G-6/NETCOM IA- RHEL.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Knowledge of data administration and data standardization policies and standards.
    • Knowledge of data backup, types of backups, and recovery concepts and tools.
    • Knowledge of policy-based and risk adaptive access controls.
    • Knowledge and comfortability with query languages such as SQL.
    • Able to establish data security controls, maintain databases, and optimize database performance.
    • Must meet DoD 8140 Database Administrator – Senior (421)

    REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
    • Must have an active SECRET clearance.
