Summary:
The Database Administrator will provide support to the Navy Medicine Operational Training Command (NMOTC). The NMOTC Information Management and Technology Department IT Service Area activities are performed in close cooperation and coordination with, but not limited to: Application Integration and Business
Intelligence Support, Desktop Support Services, IT Operations, Customer Portfolio Management and Cyber Support Services. Services are typically accomplished through integrated product or project teams, comprised of Government and Contractor personnel. The NMOTC Information Management and Technology Department and the associated IT Enterprise provides services to over 100,000 end-users world-wide to include 1,300 unique operational medicine program owners across Navy Medicine, individual projects, laboratories, and other Fleet and Fleet Marine Force medical organizations.
This position is eligible for remote support.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Design, develop and implement database systems.
- Work closely with application developers and system administrators to determine the required database structure, data models and schema designs.
- Install and configure database management systems (DBMS) SQL Server.
- Ensure proper software installation, perform initial configuration, and optimize system settings for performance, security and STIG compliance.
- Perform database upgrades, patches, and migrations to ensure minimal downtime and smooth transition of data and applications.
- Maintain data security and enforce access control policies, create user accounts, manage permissions and roles, and implement encryption, authentication, and auditing security measures to protect sensitive data.
- Execute backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Schedule regular backups, test restore procedures, and monitor backup storage to prevent data loss and facilitate disaster recovery actions.
- Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, such as performance problems, connectivity errors, or data corruption.
- Apply patches, updates, and perform routine maintenance tasks like database reorganization and data purging.
- Assess current and future data storage requirements, monitor database growth trends, and plan for capacity upgrades.
- Optimize storage utilization, allocate disk space, and forecast resource needs to ensure scalability and prevent performance degradation.
- Perform ACAS (Assured Compliance Assessment Solution) scanning to identify vulnerabilities in the network infrastructure and EUD (End User Device) footprint.
- Utilize PowerShell to develop and deploy scripts to monitor and mitigate security vulnerabilities in OS (Operating System) and software packages installed on systems.
- Stay up to date with cybersecurity advisories, vulnerability databases, and best practices to effectively manage and mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to prioritize and address IAVMs in accordance with compliance requirements and industry standards.
- Develop network security control procedures based on Security Requirements set forth by the Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Health Agency, and local NMOTC Policies
- Implement security controls, monitor, and respond to security alerts, analyze current technology packages for vulnerabilities and exposures.
- Utilize the Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) suite to perform weekly vulnerability scanning and compliance checks on the MedCOI network.
- Submit periodic reports of compliance with established security procedures and policies.
- Monitor cybersecurity information channels to observe the latest developments in vulnerabilities, exploits, and countermeasures.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Extensive database knowledge and experience capable of collaboration with cross-functional teams, including application developers and system administrators to provide optimal database support.
- Knowledge and experience to identify and resolve database-related issues, such a data integrity problem, performance degradation, or system errors, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Knowledge and experience utilizing Microsoft SQL Server, Webserver IIS, Microsoft .NET Framework and Windows PowerShell developmental tools to manage production databases and developments databases.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Hold a bachelor's degree in IT related field with five years of experience in database administration or 7 years general IT experience.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Must have and ability to maintain a Secret clearance.
