Dean of Arts and Sciences jobs in Hawaii

Dean of Arts and Sciences manages administrative functions of the college of arts and sciences. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Arts and Sciences leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Arts and Sciences requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Arts and Sciences manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Arts and Sciences typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Qualifications include:

    • Teacher license (or license in process)
    • A minimum of two years teaching experience, preferably in Hawai'i
    • Knowledge of relevant content standards
    • Knowledge and experience designing and delivering curriculum
    • Understanding and experience with delivering flexible, differentiated instruction
    • Ability to use the natural environment as a learning laboratory
    • Knowledge and respect for Hawaiian values, knowledge, and practices
    • Ability to establish positive relationships and work with diverse students need including those with special needs
    • Ability to establish learning culture based on Growth Mindset and Positive Discipline

    Term: 10-month, Full-time, 40 hours per week

    Pay: Base pay in accordance with HSTA collective bargaining salary schedule based on position level and years of service in Hawaiʻi, and:

    • Maximum credits for private school and out-of-state experience
    • Differential pay $8,000 for teachers with Hawaiian Language or Hawaiian Studies degree
    • Differential pay of $7,500 for all VSAS teachers for teaching in “Hard-to-Staff” location
    • Full benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, Paid Sick Leave and State Holidays

    Start Date: July 30, 2024
