Dean of Communications manages administrative functions of the college of communications. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Communications leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Communications requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Communications manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Communications typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     The Communications Superintendent demonstrates competency in job planning and management, with a strong ability to meet deadlines and execute work safely. Attention to detail is critical to success in this job as is the ability to communicate, both up and down the chain of command.

    The job entails organization and focus on managing multiple subcontractors, work crews and project personnel. It involves preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports accurately. Other duties include coordinating construction work in accordance with contractual requirements, phasing plans, and owner needs. Forecasting includes providing look-ahead schedules and arranging critical telecommunication outages necessary to complete the work and re-forecasting of tasks as site conditions change. The Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of construction: safety, quality, schedule, and client satisfaction. This is a hands-on position, requiring a focus on results, and a willingness to solve problems that arise in the field.

    Job Requirements

    Responsibilities included, but not limited to:

    1. Run day-to-day operations with crews of 5-30 technicians of a project/program or sub-section of a project/program.

    2. Responsible for job site safety, to include overseeing daily safety meetings and performing job site safety inspections.

    1. Determining labor requirements and dispatching workers to construction sites.
    2. Interpreting and explaining plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients.
    3. Interface with engineering team to ensure design efficiency.
    4. Coordinate with field personnel and/or engineering team to discuss any potential installation issues.
    5. Interface with internal and external customers.
    6. Plan material location and storage to enhance project productivity.

    9. Plan equipment and material needs to ensure on-time delivery.

    10. Suggest process improvements and cost saving measures.

    11. Assist technicians with installation work as needed to maintain project schedule and budget.

    12. Maintain organized and detailed project records (Daily Work Tickets, etc.).

    13. Provide Project Manager with weekly project status and schedule updates.

    14. Interface with customers to address project status and/or customer concerns.

    15. Utilize project tracking tools to track progress, document issues and conditions daily.

    16. Maintain as-builts documents as work is completed.

    17. Build project schedule to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish installation plan.

    18. Understanding and managing projects cost as it relates to the budget.

    19. Plan and execute project delivery to include project kick-off, procurement, pre-testing, pre-fabrication, installation, commissioning, punch list and close-out.

    20. Responsible for continuous quality control to ensure compliance with industry and company standards, project plans, drawings, specifications, and Owner requirements.

    21. Read and interpret blueprints, design artifacts, and project specifications.

    22. Identify changes to scope of work (SOW), assist project team with pricing, implement approved changes on project.

    23. Validate project estimate post award for constructability, manpower requirements, material budgets and equipment requirements.

    24. Confer with senior management, supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and project issues.

    25. Assist project team with acquiring permits, badge/access requests, scheduling inspections, and assuring that installation complies with local codes and standards.

    26. Ability to obtain a Security Clearance.

    Qualifications / Skills Sets / Expectations:

    * 5 year bachelor's degree (i.e. Engineering Technology, Construction Management) and 5 years of Installation experience in IT, Cable, Electrical, RF and/or Telecommunications fields.

    OR High school diploma with 10 years of Installation experience in IT, Cable, Electrical, RF and/or Telecommunications fields.

    * Experience working on telecommunication and electronic security projects ranging from $50,000 to $5M

    * Experience working with contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendums, specifications, change orders, RFIs, submittals.

    * Experience installing Information Transport Systems

    * Experience using MS Office Suit, CPM Scheduling, Cost estimating, modeling, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam software.

    * Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, and drawings on electrical and security projects.

    * Familiar with standard deliverables and work process on construction and integration projects.

    * Must be a problem owner/solver having strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    * Proven ability to effectively plan and organize one's own activities or the activities of others.

    * Able to work in a diverse environment, with personnel having a range of backgrounds.

    * Requires reliable attendance at project locations during working hours.

    * Requires the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional nights and weekends.

    * Up to 25% travel, must have reliable transportation,
