Dean of Engineering manages administrative functions of the college of engineering. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Engineering leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Engineering requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Engineering manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Engineering typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     CBC seeks a Dean for Arts, Humanities, & Communication. The Dean is the line administrator who is responsible to the Vice President for Instruction for administering and coordinating comprehensive programs of instruction for the following disciplines: fine arts, music, theatre, English, world languages, communication studies, and Spanish Interpretation. This position oversees administrative assignments within the instructional program, as required, and participates as a member of the instructional administrative team in the general operation of the instructional program. The Dean reports to the Vice President for Instruction (VPI).

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Support the mission, vision, and values of Columbia Basin College through courageous and ethical leadership of the Arts, Humanities, and Communication Division, as well as in support of other areas of the College as a thoughtful leader and engaged member of an administrative team;
    • Work with faculty and staff to articulate and implement a vision and strategic plan for the Arts, Humanities & Communication Division that supports student success;
    • Develop a preliminary budget for the Division and oversee expenditures within the approved budgets;
    • Evaluate faculty, exempt, and classified staff through the appropriate College policies and procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements with courageous conversations, providing honest, candid, and accurate feedback; offer support through appropriate resources geared toward success, regardless of employee type;
    • Provide clear and regular communication with members of the Division, the Vice President for Instruction, and other members of the Instructional and Student Services Council;
    • Support campus and Division assessment and accreditation efforts including the development of annual and focused program reviews;
    • With a focus on the instructional areas within the division, participate in local, state, and national educational/ workforce development and leadership conferences and activities;
    • Coordinate and consolidate the planning and equipping of facilities directly related to the Division with the appropriate officers of the College;
    • Play a major role in planning new instructional buildings and remodeling of existing structures;
    • Maintain and/or develop connections with local and State organizations as related to the instructional areas within the Division;
    • May teach with the approval of the Vice President for Instruction; and
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university;
    • Two (2) years of supervisory experience; and
    • Experience working in a diverse work environment such as serving underrepresented and Hispanic communities.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Music, Theatre, Visual arts, English/ Composition/Literature, Communication Studies, World Language, Spanish Medical Interpreting or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
    • Teaching experience; and
    • Supervisory experience in Higher Education.

    Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time, overtime exempt, administrative staff position. The typical work hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, work hours may vary due to work demands, summer schedule and some evening and weekend work may be required

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including having the ability to move materials on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and travel between buildings on campus. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

    Work environment includes office and other settings as appropriate. It is a fast paced and sometimes stressful services environment. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises. This position has an occasional need for travel.
