Dean of Engineering manages administrative functions of the college of engineering. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Engineering leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Engineering requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Engineering manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Engineering typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     General:

    The M.C. Dean, Inc. Maritime Division works at shipyards around the world from our regional offices in Chesapeake, VA, and San Diego, CA.  Become a key member of our Alteration Installation Teams, supporting C4ISR system installations on ships and submarines.  Join the top team on the waterfront, working for unrivaled compensation and benefits.

     

    Minimum Education:  (one of the following)

    • Completion of formal two-year or more contractor apprenticeship program in a related field that includes at least six months of formal classroom training that addresses electrical circuit theory, electromagnetic radiation, and other disciplines related to C4ISR installations.
    • Completion of four (4) years of U.S. military service with one of the following technical ratings:   a) Electronic Technician, b) Interior Communications (IC), c) Information System Technician, Radioman or Data System Technician
    • An Associates Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or Information Technology.

    Experience:   16 Years

    • At least sixteen (16) years of experience as an installer / technical expert with experience with at least ten (10) years of that experience working on Afloat C4ISR installations with the U.S. Navy.

    Skills and Proficiencies:

    • Effectively lead a crew of other installers in the completion of single-site installations.
    • Effectively brief site personnel on the installation status and on future plans
    • Understand and correctly red-line as-built drawings
    • Locate and correct installation errors like standard violations and incorrect wiring
    • Works as Senior Installer supporting cabling, equipment, and device installations
    • Demonstrate skill in the operation of all commonly used installation hand tools and test equipment
    • Demonstrate advanced speed and accuracy when performing tasks such as attaching fiber optic connectors, RJ-45 connectors, and DB type connectors, and when dressing cable installations so that the finished product presents a well-organized and professional appearance.
    • Have superior skills in complex mechanical, sub-assembly, rack and chassis assembly
    • Have superior leadership abilities
    • Consistently demonstrate superior workmanship in a mission-critical environment


    Safety and Physical Requirements: (have or obtain the following certifications)

    • Occupation Safety Haz-Mat
    • Shipyard Competent Person
    • Aloft/Climbing / Climbing Shipyard Stairs and Ladders
    • Working in Confined Spaces
    • Training and the Ability to Safely Lift and Move Objects of 50 LBS
    • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation


    Security and Work Locations:

    • Work is primarily in San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA but you may travel for extended periods to other shipyards in the USA and to other Navy ports outside the USA
    • You will work at government facilities.  You must be a US Citizenship eligible for clearance.
    • You must pass a background investigation
    • You must have a valid driver's license


    Other Responsibilities:

    • Work overtime upon management request
    • Maintain and safeguard company equipment and tools
    • Maintain and safeguard inventory
    • Organize and schedule jobs to an on-time completion
    Physical Requirements:
    • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
    • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
    • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts,  catwalks and all types of ladders.
    • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
    • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
    • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
