Dean of Engineering manages administrative functions of the college of engineering. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Engineering leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Engineering requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Engineering manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Engineering typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Academic Advising/ Placement Responsibilities:

    • Serve as expert manager and leader of our Upper School’s academic program, vision, and philosophy, working closely with the Head of Upper School. 
    • Serve on the Student Support Team, Management Team, and Department Head Team as the “resident expert” of the academic program.
    • Oversee all aspects of the course selection process, partnering with the advisors, department chairs, and college counselors to ensure that students are in academic programs and trajectories that are right for them.
    • Coordinate and follow up with Department Chairs regarding Honors/AP/ decisions, and with the Director of Teaching and Learning regarding placement into Strategies courses; communicate decisions and explanations to parents in a timely manner. 
    • Monitor student progress on meeting graduation requirements from a credit perspective.
    • Handle referrals from faculty, advisors, or Grade Deans regarding students who wish to add/drop a course or change course levels.
    • Coordinate placement of students new to the US with the appropriate Department Chairs; contact the families of students new to the school to finalize the course selection process.
    • Connect families with referrals of subject skills tutors when appropriate.


    Reporting/Correspondence Responsibilities:
    • Contact students/parents to resolve scheduling conflicts that arise. 
    • Generate academic reports at each grading period.
    • Work with the Registrar on transcript issues as necessary.
    • Coordinate student requests for materials to be sent to apply to other secondary schools.
    • Handle the coordination of all written correspondence regarding academic decisions and requirements with parents: course placement decisions and rationales, summer reading, summer school requirements, any other programmatic concerns.
    • Inform parents in writing when a student is placed on Academic Warning or Probation; monitor student’s performance through the appropriate Advisor, Dean, Learning Specialist, or Grade Dean; inform parents of student progress during the probationary period; lead initial intervention efforts if the terms of probation are not met.


    Committee Work Responsibilities:

    • Member of the Student Supervisory Team, Management Team, Admissions Committee, and Department Chair team
    • Other duties as specified by the Head of US

    Requirements:

    • Masters preferred.
    • At least 5 to 7 years of educational experience at the high school      level.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery, autonomy of      thought and skill development.
    • Ability to be organized and manage a series of student information      platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail, Zoom. 
    • Demonstrated cross-cultural competence--ability to effectively teach,      learn, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student      body--in pedagogical practice and multicultural curriculum content. 
    • Demonstrated capacity in culturally responsive professional      practices, excellent communication skills, and ability to constructively      collaborate with colleagues.
    • Demonstrated capacity to thrive in our diverse community, including      but not limited to diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity,      socio-economic status, ability/disability, belief, sexual orientation, and      national origin according to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion      principles. 
    • Must have a demonstrated alignment with King’s Mission and Virtues.

    Classifications:
