Job Description
Applications are invited for the position of Director, Office of Graduate Programs in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. This position is responsible for leading the Graduate Student Services office of the department, which currently includes 2 staff positions. Key responsibilities of this position include providing administrative leadership for graduate student recruiting, admissions, and immigration; internal and external communication and marketing (working with department and college communicators); student engagement and student life; career and professional development; course scheduling; and graduate program event planning. In addition, the successful candidate will support and collaborate with the Associate Department Head for Graduate Studies (to whom this position reports) on strategic and policy aspects of the graduate program, including diversity and inclusion; student funding; curriculum development; data collection, analysis, and reporting; assessment; academic advising; and course enrollment management. The Computer Science Department is the largest program in the College of Engineering and is experiencing significant growth both in Blacksburg and in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The department offers PhD, MS, and MEng degrees, and currently enrolls over 900 graduate students.
Required Qualifications
* Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with relevant experience
* Strong communication and personal skills
* Ability to work effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, and staff.
* Experience with typical administrative software tools including electronic file sharing, word processing, and spreadsheets and forms processing software
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in computer science or another science or engineering discipline; or a
Master's degree or higher in higher education, academic advising or related field.
* Professional experience in higher education
* Professional experience as a supervisor
* Experience working with international students
* Experience with university student records systems such as BANNER or Slate
