Dean of Law jobs in California
Dean of Law manages administrative functions of the college of law. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Law leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Law requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Law manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Law typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Responsibilities- Take responsibility for administrative staff relating to client invoicing/billing records, setting up meetings with clients and completing tasks
- Perform research, draft briefs, pleadings, and motions
- Determine case strategies and solutions to serve clients’ needs after analysis
- Get the appropriate legal documents ready for clients, such as brief, motions, and pleadings, as well as correspondence
- Appear in court on behalf of clients and argue motions during legal proceedings
Qualifications- Communication, problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal, and public speaking skills required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is needed
- Able to work independently while handling multiple files
- Well-versed in legal research software (Westlaw/Lexis)
- Prior experience working in a law firm for a minimum of 3-4 years required.
