Being a Dean of Nursing leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Nursing requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires certification as a registered nurse. The Dean of Nursing manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Hampton University is seeking a dynamic Dean for the School of Nursing to take the program to the next level. The Dean is a 12-month administrative appointment and reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost. The Dean that will provide leadership in advancing the school’s network of external relationships nationally as well as internationally and raising 33 1/3% of his/her operating budget. The Dean is responsible for the implementation of sound educational policies and for effective management of personnel, programs, and fiscal resources; and the overall quality of academic programs, faculty, students and graduates within in the school, and professional activities which support the budget and/or enhance the reputation of the school. The incumbent should also have a solid history of securing external funding, flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities, and the ability to prioritize and simultaneously coordinate multiple projects and events.
The Dean will be expected to initiate the development of long range plans and curriculum review, facilitate pursuit of accreditation by non-accredited programs and continued accreditation of previously accredited programs, maintain the academic standards of the university, enhance the prestige of the university through professional activities, research publications, and creative and scholarly activities; and implement effective student recruitment and community outreach programs for attracting qualified students.
