Dean of Nursing manages administrative functions of the college of nursing. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Nursing leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Nursing requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires certification as a registered nurse. The Dean of Nursing manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Nursing typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     ISU’s College of Health (COH) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean/Director of the School of Nursing in the College of Health. The School of Nursing celebrated its 60th anniversary celebration in 2016. The School of Nursing offers the undergraduate degrees in nursing (RN-BSN, accelerated nursing and the traditional baccalaureate (BSN)) with approximately 225 students, masters (MSN) with approximately 12 students, doctor of nursing practice (DNP) with approximately 100 students, and doctor of philosophy (PhD) in nursing with approximately 10 students. The School of Nursing is a member of the COH, which is home to 17 distinct disciplines, 12 departments, 41 programs and 178 faculty and staff. The College of Health supports over 4000 students and serves the state-wide mission to educate health care professionals. The School of Nursing has 19 full time faculty and 9 staff. The Associate Dean/Director of the School of Nursing reports to the Dean of the College of Health and is a 12-month position. The Associate Dean/Director will be located at the main campus in Pocatello.

    Minimum Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • A terminal research degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution
    • Eligible for a RN license in Idaho
    • An accomplished academician
    • A well-established and progressive record of scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications consistent with the appointment in a tenured senior academic rank
    • At least 2 years previous experience directing an undergraduate or graduate program in nursing
    • At least 2 years budget creation and management experience
    • At least 2 years assessing programmatic and student learning outcomes
    • Experience with accreditation
    • Candidates should also have outstanding communication skills
