  • Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Dean for the Grandview Campus. This is a full-time, in-person, administrative position, plus a full state benefits package.
     
    Reporting to the Dean of College and Career Readiness, the Assistant Dean for the Grandview Campus has general oversight of Grandview Campus operations. The Assistant Dean is the onsite administrator and initial point of contact for administrative, instructional, and student services issues for the Grandview Campus. As the initial point of contact, the Assistant Dean provides immediacy and leadership in addressing daily issues that occur in the delivery of instructional or student services. In this capacity, the Assistant Dean functions in support of the Dean of College and Career Readiness and Grandview Campus, as well as the division deans who supervise the instructional and student services faculty and programs. Additionally, an important role of the Assistant Dean for the Grandview Campus is to serve as the student discipline officer for Grandview Campus students.
     
    The Assistant Dean will lead the Grandview Campus as an equity-focused educator in student services.

    • Function as on-site administrator, to assist instructors and counselors to address instructional, student or administrative issues that require immediate attention.
    • Work closely with the City of Grandview and other local governments.
    • Effectively communicate institutional goals and objectives to the Grandview Campus Act as the liaison between the Grandview and Yakima campuses
    • Manage the Grandview Campus budget.
    • Provide leadership and direction in facilities and space usage.
    • Supervise and evaluate day, evening and weekend classified and exempt personnel.
    • Establish workloads and schedule work of classified and exempt staff within the campus. 
    • Serve on Tenure Review Committees, and other college committees.
    • Serve as the student discipline officer for the Grandview campus, working in consultation with the Dean of Student Services
    • Resolve conflicts as they occur in the classroom, and the workplace and communicate with the appropriate dean.
    • Collaborate with Instructional Council to build strong partnerships with local school districts. 
    • Represent the college at community functions.
    • Provide leadership and oversight to other initiatives or programs with district wide impact, as assigned.
    • Work evenings, weekends, and travel as necessary.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    • Federal, state and local policies and procedures relating to Higher Education Collective bargaining processes applicable to staff members.
    • Systemic oppression, racism, and equity concepts and applications in teaching, advising, and serving.
    ABILTY TO:
    • Work with and commitment to equity in working with students, communities, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, identities, and intersection.
    • Prioritize, and coordinate multiple work activities. 
    • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Earned Master's degree in education or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • At least two years of supervisory experience in Higher Education 
    • At least two years of budget management experience
    • Demonstrated successful grant-writing experience
     
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience in investigation of student conduct violations.
    • Experience working with administrators, faculty, staff, students, state agencies, and the public. 
    • Works collaboratively and effectively with people in conflict resolution
    • Effective community liaison and partnership development
    • Demonstrated success working on behalf of students of color, students from low-income backgrounds and other traditionally marginalized students, identifying performance and outcome gaps and developing effective strategies to address the causes of those differences.
    • Experience teaching in Higher Education
