Position Summary
Directs and supervises all functions, activities and personnel of the deli department to achieve high quality, supply outstanding customer service while achieving the sales and profit goals established for the department.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
· Promote outstanding customer service with all guests and associates, greeting all customers with a smile, offering assistance, thanking customers for shopping at our store and inviting them to come back.
· Project a professional personal image with impeccable hygiene and wearing a clean, neat assigned uniform, with a clearly visible nametag.
· Leads and directs department staff in the daily actions and tasks to manage product preparation, case stocking, customer assistance and special order production. Develops associate work schedules to provide excellent service and manage budgeted sales per man hour.
· Conducts interviews, hires and trains new staff.
· Conducts department meetings on a regular basis to facilitate communication and set standards for performance or provide training to improve customer service.
· Provides regular performance reviews, coaching and discipline if necessary.
· Selects and orders goods and services to be sold in the department, minimizing out-of-stocks, participating in storewide programs, staying familiar with trends and new items and seasonal needs.
· Prepares an assortment of new and innovative products on a regular basis, to include salads, hot case products, deli trays and ready to eat items. Directly oversees products in cold and hot displays, fryers and grab-and-go programs.
· Facilitates pricing in the department by negotiating best pricing, collaborating with Store Director and other departments, monitoring market pricing, verifying shelf tags and scanning system prices, monitoring volume discounts and ad items.
· Merchandises department by assisting with unloading trucks, verifying and maintain inventory, creatively stocking the department, managing displays, product packaging and labeling.
· Monitors department expenses by reducing shrink, verifying accuracy of invoicing and pricing, tracking profit, bill backs, cost of goods sold, etc. and maintaining loss prevention strategies.
· Monitors product freshness, safety and sanitization, including all health and safety standards and procedures.
· Supervises department cleanliness, organization and visual appeal. Including ongoing schedule for department cleaning, equipment maintenance, and case or freezer defrosting as necessary.
· Actively participates in training and development to provide fresh guidance to associates on the latest trends and marketing ideas. Maintains current HASAP certification.
· Actively supports the Store Director and other departments to reach targeted goals and budgets.
Education/Work Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
3 years practical experience in Deli Management, or a combination of deli experience and supervisory experience
HASAP certification
Knowledge, Skills Abilities
Creative and merchandising skills
Ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
Proficiency in basic math
