Dentist examines and treats diseases and injuries of teeth and gums. Performs preventative and maintenance dentistry and educates the patient in proper tooth and gum care. Being a Dentist recommends braces or surgery to correct any malformations. Requires a doctorate degree in dentistry, either a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited school. Additionally, Dentist requires a state licensed to practice. Typically reports to a top management. Dentist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Responsibilities:
- Assist the dentist during dental procedures
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations
- Take and develop dental x-rays
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment
- Prepare materials for impressions and restorations
- Provide post-operative instructions to patients
- Maintain accurate patient records
- Schedule and confirm appointments
- Manage inventory of dental supplies
Requirements:
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
- Familiarity with medical records systems
- Experience in dental assisting preferred but not required
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and infection control protocols
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Knowledge of medical coding is a plus
