There are currently two Health Education Specialist positions posted. This position will report to the Nutrition Director, the other Health Education Specialist position will report to the Director of Education and Engagement.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Health Education Specialist develops and implements population health promotion objectives/activities and general health education activities. Acts as a public health education resource to community agencies and the general public. Collaborates with a variety of partners to activate community-led solutions to create sustainable change in policies, systems sand environments resulting in expanded opportunities for healthy living.
Works with the Nutrition Director to ensure compliance with applicable program standards, grant requirements, state regulations and Board of Health adopted policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Works with health department and community partners to identify current and emerging health issues and prioritize populations for participation in health education programs.
Develops and delivers educational materials and resources on topics such as nutrition, physical activity, mental health, smoking cessation, infectious disease mitigation, and chronic disease prevention.
Implements program objectives as outlined in program work plans; participates in community health coalitions, providing leadership as needed; and coordinates services with other community organizations to ensure effective engagement with the community.
Collaborates closely with community partners and residents to implement equitable and inclusive community-led solutions that support sustainable change in policies, places and population health.
Conducts program needs assessment and prepares annual grant proposal and workplan, identifying goals and objectives for specific population health program activities in order to meet identified community needs.
Maintains records of program activities, compiles data, prepares quarterly reports and interacts regularly with grant or program consultant(s) in order to evaluate program outcomes and prepare and submit required program reports.
Monitors program budget and expenditures and obtains/maintains program equipment and supplies to ensure efficient service delivery and use of grant resources.
Serves as an advocate for prevention and health promotion through appropriate mediums, such as news media and social media outlets and acts as a resource in the community to support basic public health promotion and education.
Approaches relationships and work with humility, transparency, dependability and respect for others.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in public health, health education, or related field.
Two years of health education experience.
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification required or must be obtained within the first year of employment. Certification must be maintained throughout employment.
Valid Ohio Driver’s License. License must be maintained throughout employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Final candidates must successfully pass a background check and provide proof of current automobile insurance.
An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.
