Design Engineer designs, develops, and enhances new and existing products/product lines. Evaluates and recommends specifications and ensures products meet the technical and functional requirements. Being a Design Engineer recommends and follows reliable, efficient, and cost-effective procedures. Performs feasibility, functional, and quality testing of designs. Additionally, Design Engineer works with other members of the engineering staff to ensure project milestones are met and that projects are completed according to established timelines. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Design Engineer work is closely managed.     Summary of the Role You Are Applying For:

    As a Design Engineer, you will help Wood-Mizer design, develop, or redesign new or existing products. You will work from requirements or instructions to design and develop new components or redesign existing components to improve Wood-Mizer products. Additionally, you will determine and establish specifications through engineering calculations and layouts and oversee the assembly and testing of engineering prototypes as needed. 

    This position is in Indianapolis, IN and is NOT a remote position.  Hybrid options are available.  Anyone not living in the greater Indianapolis, IN area should NOT apply for this role.

     

    How You Will Spend Your Time:

    Every day brings a new challenge at Wood-Mizer.  Here are some ways you will be spending your time for each role:

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the development of new product development, custom industrial solutions, as well as updates to existing products, from concept to production hand-off/customer hand-off
    • Manage designs within PTC Creo Parametric, PTC Windchill, SyteLine (ERP), and ECR/ECN systems
    • Validate designs using engineering hand calculations, as well as using PTC Creo Simulate to perform FEA prior to prototyping phase, when applicable
    • Collaborate with:
      • Sales on product definitions and project scope
      • Customer service on serviceability
      • Purchasing on sourcing components
      • Marketing on equipment aesthetics, branding, and marketing materials
      • TechDocs on technical documentation
      • Indianapolis Tooling on project prototype builds and testing
      • Production on manufacturability, tooling requirements, etc.
      • All support departments on project management for product development

     

     

    Things that are Important to Have:

    Below are some requirements for this specific role:

    EDUCATION:  

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
      • BSME, or BSMET preferred

     

    EXPERIENCE

    • Broad mechanical background
    • 3 years design engineering experience
    • 3 years’ experience with PTC Creo Parametric and PTC Creo Simulate, or similar software’s

     

     

    SKILLS:

    • Complex assembly management
    • Sheetmetal design
    • Sheetmetal manufacturing experience
    • Strong PDM system knowledge
    • International work experience a plus
    • Knowledge of ERP system
    • PMP experience
    • CPM, Gantt, etc.
    • Ability to evaluate and develop project timelines by gathering requirement information

     

    Software:

    • Working knowledge with Microsoft O365 services
    • PTC Creo Parametric, or similar 3D modeling software
    • PTC Creo Simulate, or similar CAE/FEA software
    • PTC Windchill, or similar PLM software
    • Autodesk AutoCAD, or similar 2D modeling software
    • Adobe Acrobat
    • BONUS: EPLAN Fluid
