What You’ll Do
The Project Design Engineering Manager works under the direction of the Director, Corporate Engineering to support Operations and Manufacturing facilities within Metrie regarding the technology and engineering aspect of operational process improvements and of technology upgrades of existing processes. The Project Design Engineering Manager is a hands-on Project Manager for the execution of strategic Capital Projects within Metrie’s Operations and Manufacturing divisions.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Provides support and hands-on expertise in regard to inter-disciplinary manufacturing technology with expertise wood and wood composite processing.
- Manages key projects to successfully achieve world class manufacturing processes.
- Needs to be intimately familiar with the technological capabilities, the manufacturing reliability, and the financial strength of global equipment manufacturers and is able to support the evaluation process in recommending manufacturers for vendor selection.
- Able to manage new manufacturing processes that will demand a high degree of equipment integration and automation. This level of integration needs to be achieved by the different vendors collaborating very closely on the design and the execution of their respective process elements.
- Responsible for coordinating the design activities and drives the exchange of information and ensures the collaboration of selected vendors.
- Has experience with and is familiar with the commercial construction industry and competent in leading construction projects and related services in preparation of new manufacturing and distribution facilities. The Corporate Engineering Manager demonstrates strong knowledge of applicable codes and regulatory requirements on a local and national level.
- Works closely with senior and junior staff in the different sites to engage all levels of management in finding opportunities to increase productivity and streamline auxiliary functions. In doing so s/he identifies best practices within the industry and the group of companies. S/he is a strong facilitator of discussions and presentations at all levels of the organization.
- Has an in-depth familiarity with financial statements and has sound understanding of operational interdependencies to drive profitable business-oriented process solutions.
- Utilize CAD software to create detailed drawings and specifications for equipment designs and layouts.
- Proficient in the design, analysis, selection and installation of manufacturing equipment and associated supporting infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in relevant Engineering field required
- Master’s degree in engineering is an asset
- Manufacturing expertise and automation credentials in one-piece flow, integrated production processes
- Industry experience in wood and wood composite materials is an asset
- Experience with contract management, project management, contractor management, and construction process are required
- Applied experience of plant infrastructure requirements such as air, electrical, dust removal and data collection and analysis
- P.E/P. Eng. is a plus
- Must be hands on and operationally focused with strong communications skills
- Willingness to travel up to 30% as required, and ability to travel internationally
- Expertise in CAD software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor etc

In adherence to the principle of pay transparency, we are pleased to disclose the base pay for this full-time position at Metrie. The base pay for this role is set at $110,000/year-$130,000/year plus variable pay. The specific base pay within the range will be contingent upon an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that our remuneration ranges are established based on the role, level, and location.
