Development Director manages an organization's fundraising strategies, campaigns, capital development initiatives, and operations to support the overall organizational development and revenue objectives. Implements donor stewardship programs to identify, develop, retain, and nurture a portfolio of individual and institutional donors. Being a Development Director works to develop potential corporate or governmental partnerships and grant funding opportunities. Creates collaborative coordination between staff and internal stakeholders to plan events and communications to increase donor engagement. Additionally, Development Director uses technology to manage and monitor donor information and produce data-driven measurement and reporting of the progress of fundraising goals. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Development Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Development Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of foundation and corporate funding opportunities planned giving vehicles, and trust administration and tax-exempt giving. Knowledge of budgeting principles and procedures, basic statistical methods, decision-making techniques. Knowledge and ability to review and prepare reports from donor software, Blackbaud. Ability to train and effectively direct the activities of department staff and volunteers. Ability to administer a budget and monitors expenditures for compliance with the same. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate and complete manner. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Advertising, Public Relations, Business Administration, or other related field, And five to seven years’ experience performing development and fund-raising activities, with a minimum of two years supervisory experience, Or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid State Driver’s License. CFRE (preferred) Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.
