NATURE OF WORK: The Team Leader is responsible for directly assisting our individuals with all activities associated with daily living and providing them with the best quality of life as they are able to experience. This is accomplished by providing our individuals with a safe, clean, orderly and predictable environment, in the least restrictive setting, and to enable our individuals to experience, as closely as possible, the patterns of a normal life. The Team Leader also works closely with the Residential Coordinator in the planning and management of the daily routine for their shift.
TEAM LEAD RESPONSIBILITY
Must be able to lead and motivate a shift of several staff members to perform to the best of their ability.
Must be able to delegate duties and oversee other team members assigned to their shift, including but not limited to monitoring work performance, time and attendance, and assisting Residential Coordinator with orientation and training.
Must be able to apply knowledge and skills gained through required training in Medication Administration, Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R), First Aid, CPR and other in-service training.
Must ensure that menus are created, and staff are able to prepare as directed by the dietician, Residential Coordinator or Nurse.
Must be able to ensure that the residence is maintained in a clean, hygienic, orderly and safe manner by independently identifying and rectifying both cleanliness and safety concerns.
Must be able to follow established procedures for notifying appropriate personnel orally and/or in writing of significant events (i.e., emergencies, incidents, maintenance and safety needs).
Monitor and ensure quality care to individuals by developing a thorough activity schedule and assign staff to specific activities and duties.
Assist the Residential Coordinator with the evaluation of staffs’ work performance.
Assist the Residential Coordinator with the orientation, training and maintaining a positive morale amongst staff.
Contribute to the upkeep of the residence through the completion of scheduled cleaning and maintenance chores as directed by any member of the management team
Encourage individual independence as appropriate throughout daily routines and provide opportunities for individuals to participate in making choices as appropriate
Engage the individuals in recreation, social, and skill building interactions throughout the course of the shift as appropriate.
Create and post all activity and goal schedules and ensure they are being followed.
Complete all required paperwork and document as appropriate in goal data books, res hab, logbooks, and medication records in a timely manner.
Ensure all data collection is documented before the end of shift.
Must adhere to the agency’s mission and core values of honesty, integrity and fairness and ensure that other DSP’s are as well.
Must display a professional and cooperative attitude when interacting with individuals, other providers of services, family and guardians, community members and day program staff.
Must interact in a professional, positive, and cooperative manner with all team members.
Must be able to communicate concerns to the Residential Coordinator or administrator-on-call in a timely manner as appropriate.
DSP DUTIES
Must be able to perform duties as directed by the Residential Coordinator or a member of the administration.
Must be able to provide direct support services to the individuals including the implementation of basic services such as food, clothing, hygiene and other activities of daily living.
Must be able to provide active treatment through implementation of all formal and informal goals, behavior plans and services as appropriate during daily routines.
Must be able to transport and/or accompany individuals on appointments or to scheduled activities, including recreation individually or in a group, as necessary and appropriate.
Must be able to develop and maintain a supportive yet normalizing relationship with all individuals.
Must be able to remain awake and alert for duration of scheduled work shift.
Must be able to follow and comply with the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals Code of Ethics.
Must be able to follow policy and procedures for incidents and alleged abuse reporting.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must exhibit good leadership ability and positive role modeling.
Must be able to give directives and follow up to ensure completion of tasks assigned.
Must possess effective oral, math and written skills in English.
Must have the physical ability listed under “Physical Activities” in order to interact fully with the individuals. This includes the ability to lift our individuals with assistance in the event of an emergency or during ADL’s and to implement physical interventions during behavioral outbursts.
Must work independently and use common sense in work situations.
Must work positively within a team environment.
Must attend all required annual training courses in the allowable time frame.
Must become med certified and maintain certified status. Any employee who loses their ability to either become med certified or maintain their med certified status may be transferred within the Agency, and can affect scheduled hours, location of work and rate of pay.
Must become van certified and maintain van certified status. Any employee who loses their ability to either become van certified or maintain van certification may be transferred within the Agency, and can affect their scheduled hours, location of work and rate of pay.
Must adhere to Agency Attendance Policy to ensure adequate staff coverage at your location.
Must learn and follow established policies and procedures of the agency.
Must work extra hours (including overnight coverage) at the end of their work shift to maintain minimum staff coverage.
Must be able to follow all safety procedures set by the Agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Team Leader should have a minimum of a high school diploma. An associate degree and a minimum of one year of experience working with the developmentally disabled are preferred. Consideration will be given to those with less experience that can clearly demonstrate their ability to complete the job responsibilities of the position

All staff must pass all NYS Justice Center Background Check Requirements, and Physical. In addition, the employee has a duty to report any suspected violations of the law (including any motor vehicle infractions) to the Human Resources Director.
