Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Position Summary
The Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist provides dynamic diabetes self-management training to individuals and groups based on all content areas of the AADE7 and the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support. The Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist provides individualized diabetes self-management plans, coordinates care, interprets data, conducts focused educational assessments and promotes successful self-management through adaptation.
