Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor supervises and coordinates the activities of staff in a diagnostic imaging department such as nuclear medicine, MRI, radiology, computer-assisted tomography or ultrasound. Monitors the adherence to all diagnostic imaging policies, procedures, and services. Being a Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree, certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Thorough knowledge of department processes.     GENERAL:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Perform procedures using appropriate PPE’s
    2. Perform all procedures and services provided by the department, to include, HIS, RIS & PAC’s. 
    3. Verify procedure to be performed
    4. Inform patient of procedure to be performed
    5. Preserve patient privacy and modesty   
    6. Demonstrate regard for patient safety and radiation protection
    7. Accurate transcription of physician orders, scheduling appts.
    8. Accurate sending of results, faxes, reports, etc.
    9. Accurate reporting of results
    10. Complete recording of maintenance procedures

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    The Diagnostic Imaging Technologist shall:

    1.         Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology and/or its equivalence to be determined by the director.

    2.         Registry or registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

    3.         Current Wyoming Diagnostic Imaging License.

    4.         Tech I, II, III, IV-- Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiological Technologist/ Diagnostic Imaging and/or its equivalence to be determined by the director.  Registered or registry eligible by the ARRT, ARDMS, CNMT.  Must have a current Wyoming License.

    5.         Tech II—Single Modality, may be multi-registered.  Ex; CT, Mammography, X-Ray.   Must be ARRT(R) or equivalent.   Should be competent in all registries.

    6.         Tech III—Competent in more than one modality.  Modalities include x-ray, nuclear

    medicine, ultrasound, and MRI.   Must be registered in one modality

    and may be registry eligible in another.

    7.         Tech IV—Registered in more than one modality.  Modalities include X-ray, Nuclear

                Medicine, MRI, and Ultrasound.  Maybe multi-modality

    4.         Must possess communication skills to relate to the public in person

    5.         Demonstrate good organizational abilities

    6.         Seeks proficiencies in computer applications, e.g. word processing, spread sheets,            database, presentation, and project publication.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate journals.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

     

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to modify care based on the developmental / functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient's ethnic background.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

     

    • BLS
    • Current Wyoming License
    • ARRT, CNMT, ARDMS

     

    • OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors and co-workers.  Ability to interact assertively and tactfully when dealing with conflict and in group solving activities.  Ability to demonstrate a professional, open minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.

     

    AGE SPECIFIC:

    Must be able to provide care according to the developmental level and or chronological patient served.  This includes, but is not limited to, identifying the needs and abilities of each patient, and demonstrating an understanding of how a patient’s chronological and developmental age influences his/her need for adaptations related to his/her abilities.  Also, an understanding of how a patient’s age impacts his/her ability to deal with and adapt to the care needed/provided is required.  General census of neonatal to geriatric patients.
