Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Job Duties and Responsibilities- Familiar with industry standard tools and procedures for basic diagnostics and repair.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair based on standardized procedures.
- Inspect equipment in detail for defects, damage potential component failure areas.
- Follow protocol and create an action plan to complete assigned tasks.
- Follow all safety guidelines in compliance with OSHA, FMCSA, state and federal DOT standards.
- Log and input all work, inspections and other maintenance data.
- Assist coworkers as necessary.
- Maintain a safe, organized work space.
- Highschool diploma or GED equivalent
- Background in automotive/truck & bus industry maintenance
- Experience with industry standard tools and equipment
- ASE certification, class B CDL, EPA 608 certification desired
- Basic computer skills
- Clear communication skills
- Desire to learn and adapt to new situations as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Employees will be required to complete pre-employment drug screen and background check, including employment references.
