Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     ABOUT FPD

    First Presbyterian Day School (FPD) is a 3K-12th grade Christ centered, college preparatory independent school located in Macon, Georgia which exists to educate and equip children to change the world for God’s glory.


    ABOUT THE ROLE
    The Elementary Librarian (EL) procures, develops, implements, and interprets an effective library program which strives to support faculty and students in being critical thinkers, effective users of ideas and information, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.


    The EL is responsible to:

    • Develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies used within the school community and encourage the use of library resources to engage students and improve learning.
    • Teach weekly lessons to all P3-5th grade classes through authentic scholarship connected to their grade level learning and through the lens of a Biblical Worldview.
    • Interact and communicate effectively with students and faculty to promote digital citizenship, acceptable use, and information literacy across the curriculum and ensure equitable access to information.
    • Participate in the curriculum development process to ensure that the curricula include the full range of research-based, best practice literacy skills (information, media, visual, digital, and technological literacy) necessary to meet content standards.
    • Collaborate with teaching faculty and directors to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, pull and curate classroom resources for teachers, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness utilizing library resources.
    • Maintain library efficiency and organization by maintaining book collections, shelving and reshelving daily, and monitoring and communicating overdues weekly.
    • Actively lead and participate in schoolwide and admissions events, including but not limited to Grandparents’ Day, Birthday Book Club, author visits, admissions events, book fairs, etc.
    • Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs and share expertise by presenting at department meetings, faculty meetings, parent meetings, and conferences.
    • Provide leadership, oversight and expertise to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and is an integral component of the instructional program.
    • Exemplify Christian leadership in interactions with students, parents, and co-workers.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Principal which may include teaching in a relevant field of study. 

    Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in the appropriate field of study, Media or Library Science preferred. 
    • Experience in library field preferred
    • Teacher certification (state or ACSI) or the equivalent.
    • Excellent English verbal, visual, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience with integrating technology into curriculum and research process.
    • Proficiency using technology in instruction and the ability to learn new technologies
    • Growing Christian with a credible profession of faith and involvement in an evangelical church.
    • A growth mindset and commitment to lifetime learning.
    • Commitment to a lifestyle above reproach in line with FPD’s Statement of Christian Principles and Ministerial Role of Faculty.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The majority of work will be performed in a classroom or school campus. The person in this role is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and may be required to lift up to 20lbs.
