The Accounting Specialist supports the Finance Team in a variety of functions. This position requires understanding of general bookkeeping principles and some knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The Accounting Specialist works with other departments to settle daily transaction activity.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Prepares and maintains spreadsheets to support billing as required.
- Creates customer invoices
- Receives payments and posts amounts paid to customer accounts.
- Proactively follows up with clients, as needed, to ensure timely payments.
- Generates reports while maintaining report deadlines.
- Assists in monthly closings.
- Ensures all internal accounting controls are followed and makes suggestions for improvements.
- Meets or exceeds internal and external customer expectations.
- Ensures all transactions are processed or accrued in the proper accounting period.
- Elevates variances or unresolved issues to the Controller in a timely manner.
- Assists other accounting team members as needed and performs work-related duties as assigned.
- Reconciles specific general ledger accounts as assigned.
- Postage meter reconciliation.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help DMM achieve its goals.

Education / Experience / Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a comparable accounting/finance position required; Associate’s Degree in Accounting preferred.
- Understanding of GAAP.
- Proficient in QuickBooks software a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Physical Requirements
- Normally seated with freedom of movement on a regular basis, operating office machines, and handling light materials and supplies.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- May spend extended periods operating desktop computer, requiring hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity; and communicating face-to-face, on the telephone, and in writing.
- Periodic physical activity requires walking, climbing, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stooping.
Work Environment
- Normal exposure to office, manufacturing, and warehouse environment.
