Director of International Education leads and directs all aspects of the institution's international programs. Oversees programs, activities, faculty affairs, and academic support services. Being a Director of International Education develops and implements strategies to attract and retain students and faculty. Oversees the operations of the study abroad and foreign exchange programs, the international admissions process, and English language programs. Additionally, Director of International Education ensures that the curriculum remains current and is in compliance with accreditation standards. Monitors the documentation and visa application processes. Oversees the departmental budget and management of expenditures throughout the year. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Director of International Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Job Description
    Responsibilities:

    • Direct and Provide International Student Services
    • Serve as the principal Designated School Official (DSO) for the immigration procedures and policies.
    • Provide support and advocacy to international students.
    • Develop academic support services to enhance the prospects of International Students to succeed academically.
    • Organize and conduct orientation sessions for international students.
    • Maintain appropriate program documentation, assessments, record keeping, reporting.
    • Provide leadership and represent Metropolitan State University at both system and university level related to international education.


    Required Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications: (Quantifiable and/or years of experience on the application materials can be pre-screened by HR at the request of the Search Committee. The other minimum skills necessary to do the job should be screened by the Search Committee through phone, campus and hiring supervisor interviews and references.)

    The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:

    • Bachelor’s degree plus six (6) years of advanced professional experience in International Business, International Education, Higher Education Administration or a related field or a Masters degree plus five (5) years of advanced professional experience in these or a related field.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in immigration laws and regulations as applied to F-I students.
    • Knowledge of SEVIS.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of cultural sensitivity and/or cross-cultural differences to deal effectively with international student issues.
    • Advising or counseling experience
    • Knowledge and experience with higher education retention strategies
    • Leadership experience

    Preferred Qualifications
    Preferred Qualifications: (These are typically soft skills that are preferred, but not essential to do the job and will be screened by the Search Committee through phone and on-campus interviews/presentations, and references – hard to screen “off paper credentials”. They would also include more years of experience than the minimum qualification listed. For example, if you listed 2 years of teaching experience in the minimums, then you would state “More than 2 years of teaching experience” under preferred, so you can screen more thoroughly.)

    • Experience and knowledge of post-secondary international student programs and immigration laws and regulations.
    • Previous experience as a DSO or PDSO

    Other Requirements
    Physical Requirements of the Job: Individual must be able to move around at events, photo/video sessions and have the ability to transport themselves to Metro’s campuses across the Twin Cities. Must be able to lift and move boxes, equipment, photo backdrops, and event materials up to 20 lbs. Ability to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time, move to other offices and buildings for project planning and consultation.

    Salary: This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range E position with a salary range of $62,010 (minimum) to $125,477 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) and the MSUAASF organization.
