Director of International Education leads and directs all aspects of the institution's international programs. Oversees programs, activities, faculty affairs, and academic support services. Being a Director of International Education develops and implements strategies to attract and retain students and faculty. Oversees the operations of the study abroad and foreign exchange programs, the international admissions process, and English language programs. Additionally, Director of International Education ensures that the curriculum remains current and is in compliance with accreditation standards. Monitors the documentation and visa application processes. Oversees the departmental budget and management of expenditures throughout the year. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Director of International Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     University of Kansas (KU) Hillel seeks an experienced nonprofit executive leader to serve as our dedicated Executive Director. This is a rewarding exempt position that provides an opportunity to shape the future of our vibrant organization. Our ideal candidate will create their home in Kansas City, and become enmeshed in the local Jewish community while commuting several days per week to our campus location about 45 minutes away in Lawrence, Kansas.

    As the Executive Director of KU Hillel, you will lead with vision and passion to further our mission of engaging Jewish students and nurturing the next generation of Jewish leaders. You will work to build a professional team that is highly committed to engaging Jewish students and partner with the board of directors to ensure oversight and financial sustainability for now and years to come.

    KU Hillel proudly serves 1,200 Jewish students and boasts a dedicated professional team, including an Assistant Director, Jewish Educator, Program Coordinator, and on-site Licensed Master Social Worker/Therapist (part-time) in partnership with Jewish Family Services of Kansas City.

    Responsibilities:

    As the Executive Director, you will:

    • Collaborate with KU Hillel board members, Hillel International, and other stakeholders to ensure vital financial health and governance.
    • Supervise, support, and mentor the KU Hillel professional staff to support their roles further and develop their professional skills
    • Effectively delegate projects, program leadership, and duties to existing staff members and hire new staff members as needed.
    • Develop and implement an annual giving plan to achieve budgeted goals and lay the foundation for expanded fundraising efforts.
    • Cultivate relationships with current and potential board members, fostering a culture of excellence in governance and volunteer management.
    • Strengthen ties with key community stakeholders and strategic partners, such as the Jewish Federation of Kansas City and the Jewish Heritage Foundation.
    • Champion organizational growth and positive change through transparency, trust, and collaboration.

    Qualifications & Experience

    We are looking for candidates with:

    • A minimum of five years of nonprofit leadership experience. Previous experience with Hillel or organizations focused on Jewish youth and young adult engagement is preferred.
    • Proven expertise in sound financial management, including budgeting, cost controls, and regular reporting to oversight committees or boards.
    • Success in major gift fundraising, board development, stakeholder relations, and financial management.
    • Experience managing and developing professional teams to accomplish their best work.
    • Strong communication skills, including written proposals and effective newsletters.
    • A track record of building relationships with key stakeholders and influential leaders.
    • Two or more years of experience in engagement in formal or informal Jewish education offerings.
    • Experience in developing and training board leadership or equivalent training experience in another work setting. 

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Competitive salary ranging from $110,000 to $125,000.
