Distance Learning and Education Director manages administrative functions of the distance learning program. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Distance Learning and Education Director leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Distance Learning and Education Director requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Distance Learning and Education Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Duties:


    Key Responsibilities:
    • Course Design and Quality Assurance:
    • Utilize best practices to design and enhance online courses.
    • Conduct internal reviews of online courses to ensure quality standards are met.
    • Ensure any course or course materials from the CAI follow best practice in online teaching, including but not limited to accessibility, readability and usability, regular substantive interaction, and alignment.
    • Willingness to obtain and/or maintain certification with Quality Matters or similar Quality Assurance provider.

    Learning Technology Support:
    • Support faculty in the use of learning technologies, including Proctorio, Panopto, and Zoom.
    • The MUS system is in the process of transitioning from Moodle to Canvas; the successful candidate will be actively participating in this process.
    • Managing Zoom and Zoom licensure

    Professional Development:
    • Assist in scheduling, designing, and facilitating professional development sessions for faculty.
    • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in distance education to provide relevant and effective training.

    Communication and Information Management:
    • Help the Director maintain regular communication through a monthly newsletter to update faculty and staff on relevant developments and opportunities.
    • Contribute to the CAI website, ensuring it is up to date with resources and information.
    • Provide content for the campus Weekly Update related to distance learning initiatives.

    Required Qualifications:
    • BA/BS in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
    • Experience with online course design and development in various distance modalities, preferably using Quality Matters or similar frameworks.
    • Familiarity with learning management systems, specifically Moodle and experience with Canvas.
    • Experience in utilizing learning technologies such as Proctorio, Panopto, and Zoom.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
    • Experience in multi-media course content development
    • Quality Matters or similar certification, or willingness to obtain and maintain same.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
    • Experience in higher education, especially as an online instructor and/or student
    • Familiarity with Moodle and experience with Canvas.
    • Knowledge of NC-SARA, C-RAQ, and Regional Accreditation requirements
