The City of West Plains, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as an Equipment Operator within its Water Distribution Department. This is a full-time, non-exempt position consisting of approximately 40 hours per week. Candidate must be able to assist and respond to on- call repairs, emergency and inclement weather operations as needed.

The equipment operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties associated with the install, repair, and maintain the water distribution system and non-potable water system including system mains, valves, service lines, pipes, meters, hydrants, fittings, and other related apparatus; monitor and ensure compliance with City, state, and federal regulations regarding water system operations. Operates and maintains a variety of heavy equipment, hand and/or power tools and other equipment. Marks and/or locates city utilities including water, collection, storm, and electrical lines; communicate with outside utilities for routine and emergency evacuations. This is a physically demanding position working outdoors in a field environment, exposed to extreme and/or adverse temperatures and weather conditions requiring heavy work exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Involves walking, sitting, standing, climbing, stooping crawling, kneeling, stretching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling on even or uneven surfaces on a continuous basis required. Ability to work and/or walk on various heights; climb unusual heights on ladders; operate assigned equipment and vehicles. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, and critical thinking. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may occasionally be moderate to loud. Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle daily. Requires varying levels of concentration of attention.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Possess or the ability to obtain a valid CDL – Class B with airbrake and tanker endorsements, throughout employment and meet the requirements of the City of West Plains Operation of Vehicles Policy.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

• This position has a starting wage of $17.06 per hour.
