Reports To: Vice President of Finance / Chief Financial Officer
Job Summary
Directs, coordinates, and oversees the institution's various financial and accounting operations, including audit preparation. Compiles all monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and policies. Oversees the operations of unrestricted accounting, finance systems management, restricted accounting, working capital investments, and accounts receivable.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversight of the accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger functions. Maintain the college’s general ledger and financial transaction recording and reporting system.
- Reconcile and post all payroll activity to the general ledger.
- Reconcile and post all cash receipts to the general ledger.
- Perform all federal funding draws and reconcile financial aid reports to the general ledger.
- Compile all monthly and annual financial statements in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Create, maintain, and provide access to budget manager monitoring reports.
- Maintain the fixed asset and depreciation schedule.
- Oversee preparation and execution of internal and external audits and the preparation of audit reports.
- Establish College financial policies and transactional standards, ensuring consistency with the College’s mission and strategic plans, state and federal fiscal management laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
- Through the Vice President of Finance/CFO, work with the Board of Trustees on the identification and resolution of strategic financial issues with current or potential impact on the College.
- Train employees new to Dynamics GP on fundamentals of use.
- Oversee major system development projects that impact financial reporting.
- Direct insurance and risk management issues across campus including renewals and claims.
- Oversee the operations of the copy and mail center.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Perform all duties with the strictest of confidence.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting, or bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum 5 years of experience that can be demonstrated to be applicable to the duties listed above, as well as a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Ability to learn institutional policies and procedures and the regulatory environment within which they operate.
- Ability to interact with students, parents, vendors, and co-workers in a professional manner and communicate effectively and timely, both verbally and in writing
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively with various departments within the institution.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Positive and collaborative team attitude.
Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills:
- Advanced and comprehensive fiscal management skills gained in a higher education institution.
- Knowledge and understanding of the mission, goals, organization, and operational/financial infrastructure of a college.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a finance team.
- Knowledge of assets and funds management principles, methods, and techniques.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of federal and state financial laws, regulations, and operating guidelines as they pertain to institutions of higher education.
- Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range strategic goals.
- Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred, but not required.
