This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. National Aerospace Solutions is a limited liability company comprised of Bechtel National Inc. (as lead company) and Sierra Lobo Inc. with teaming Subcontractors nLogic Inc. and Chugach Federal Solutions Inc. AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.
AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground, and flight test. Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.
NAS currently has an exciting career opportunity available for an Engineering Supervisor to join our team at Arnold Air Force base in Tennessee.
Job Summary:
The Drafting Supervisor will provide daily Supervisory duties supporting the designer/drafting team for the Test Drafting Group. The Supervisor will also be expected to help the Design Engineering Group Manager and Design Work Scheduler by working with employees and Leads to develop design plans for all work. This position will include extensive coordination within Design Engineering and across all AEDC CTF Facilities.
Job Duties:- Support the mission of the Design Engineering Group reporting directly to the Design Engineering Group Manager
- The primary focus is to assist the Design Engineering Group Manager in conjunction with the other management team members within NAS to perform the following:
- Oversees Test Designer/Drafting team with the Design Engineering Group (approximately 8 to 10 Drafters and Designers)
- Assigns and schedules the day-to-day work of designer/drafters, assigning/changing priorities, and monitoring status.
- Ensure work planning and work distribution is done effectively including supporting estimating and planning tasks.
- Serves as a Point of Contact (POC) for the designer/drafting team to design engineering, system engineers, project engineers and project managers
- Coordinate work with engineers in other disciplines, engineering supervisor, project managers, and craft personnel to support design efforts.
- Works with Project Management and Design Leads to ensure on-time delivery of project deliverables.
- Plans day-to-day operations. Organizes project and task workloads, selects individuals for assignments on specific projects, makes assignments and monitors cost to stay within project budgets.
- Onboard and assign mentor for new hires
- Identify training needs for direct reports and convey to group manager
- Support development, tracking and reporting of engineering performance metrics
- Ensures work is performed safely and in accordance with environmental standards.
- Implements quality, safety, and housekeeping standards.
- Monitor workforce performance and take corrective actions if performance improvements are required, utilizing company systems and tools to document results in a timely and consistent manner.
- Works to identify improvements within Designer/Drafting Team related to software, model creation, drawings standards, drawing checking, development of needed guidelines, and other improvement-oriented tasks.
- Perform and manage the work in accordance with relevant NAS and TOS procedures and AEDC standards and requirements including national consensus codes and standards.
- It is a condition of employment to wear company issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Vocational school training/certification or at least one year of college with courses relevant to drafting, and/or design plus a minimum of eight to a minimum of ten years of progressive and relevant experience in drafting for engineering design/drafting
- Current US Citizenship required
- Desire to mentor and lead
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Experienced in drafting of design engineering deliverables, specifically in the mechanical engineering discipline.
- Working knowledge of Project Management concepts and terminology as applied at AEDC
- Experienced with Autodesk software, particularly AutoCAD, Inventor, and Plant 3D
- Experienced with analyzing software and drafting techniques to help maintain and grow the drafting suite of tools
- Awareness of AEDC policies, procedures, and guidelines in regard to drawing production
- Broad knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawing, graphic arts, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the group.
- General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
- Basic computer skills such as use of Microsoft Office products, file naming, and computer folder structures.
- Skill in reading, interpreting and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
