Summary
Under the supervision of the CKA Principal, the Education Specialist will provide support to the CKA Middle and High School students who qualify for additional assistance.
Your Education / Experience
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- With these credentials in place, there are three educational pathways and one evaluation option a potential Education Specialist can take to meet requirements: 1. Two years of study at an institution of higher education. All classes must be at level 100 or higher. 2. Associate degree or higher. 3. Pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment
Your Responsibilities
- Responsible for individual educational support for all students assigned to this position and receiving services through CKA.
- Provides academic assistance to students assigned to this position or to the teacher instructing their class.
- Develop a strong, collaborative relationship with staff in order to develop a partnership to assist their child in being successful in educational settings
Qualifications You’ll Bring
- Experience in tutoring, mentoring or teaching is required.
- Work with Native American communities or other underserved communities is desired.
- Knowledge of the CKA operations, and various programs.
- Knowledge of educational issues that affect tribal communities.
- Experience working with Native American children and young adults promoting their success in academic programs.•Ability to operate with a flexible schedule. All hours are considered normal working hours and are not paid overtime or comp time.
- Strong communication skills including the ability to attend meetings with a variety of levels of expertise.
- Ability to relate well with the children and families of the Suquamish Tribe, other Native Americans, CKA students, and school staff.
- Desire and some experience working with children who have experienced learning difficulties.
- A demonstrated knowledge of mandatory reporting and confidentiality.
- Effective oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledgeable in Word, Excel and Outlook.
