EEG Technician performs electroencephalograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Attaches electrodes to the patient. Being an EEG Technician records impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of brain disorders. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies neurologist of results of examinations. Additionally, EEG Technician consults with neurologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The EEG Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be an EEG Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of the Cardiology and Respiratory Department and the Cardiology Operations Supervisor, plans, organizes and coordinates activities of the EEG Program. Functions within the scope of practice of the Cardiology Department and the hospital policies and procedures. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the hospital.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
Requires one year college level science study plus one year traineeship in EEG Technology. Certified by ASET or ABRET preferred. BLS training required.
