EEG Technician performs electroencephalograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Attaches electrodes to the patient. Being an EEG Technician records impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of brain disorders. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies neurologist of results of examinations. Additionally, EEG Technician consults with neurologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The EEG Technician works under moderate supervision. An Electroencephalogram technician works under the supervision of the EEG supervisor or designee to provide diagnostic EEG testing for inpatients and outpatients of all ages at Lawrence General Hospital. Both routine and portable studies are done at the hospital. An EEG technician is expected to perform all duties defined for an EEG technician.# Duties include, but are not limited to: ### #Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history). ### #Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician and hospital policies. ### #Review the patient#s history and verify the medical order. ### #Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary. ### #Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. ### #Enter appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record including charges required to process the study and changing the status of outpatient visits. EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in electroencephalogram technician training. OR Certification as a Registered EEG Technician from ABRET, the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists.
