EEG Technician jobs in Virginia

EEG Technician performs electroencephalograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Attaches electrodes to the patient. Being an EEG Technician records impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of brain disorders. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies neurologist of results of examinations. Additionally, EEG Technician consults with neurologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The EEG Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be an EEG Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    Job Summary and Qualifications

    As an EEG Tech you would administer/perform routine, STAT and long-term monitoring for non-invasive diagnostic electroencephalograms. You would prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make any necessary adjustments,
    • Explain and orient the patient to the EEG procedure.
    • Apply electrodes and sensors and perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.
    • You will communicate with responsible neurologist regarding all requested EEGs, informing neurologist when testing is complete, and assist neurologist with interpretation-related duties.
    • Perform cerebral death studies on adult, neonatal and pediatric patients.
    • You will participate in on-call duties to meet department needs.

    Requirements
    • Graduate of EEG program or three years’ experience.
    • Minimum of one-year experience as EEG technologist.
    • Basic Life Support Certification.
    • Two years’ experience with pediatric and adult patients preferred.
    • Registered EEG technologist preferred.
