Job Summary
The EHS Safety Specialist provides leadership for Field Operations’ application of health and safety programs in the Uinta and Piceance Basins. This position will be a trusted, go-to resource for the Safety Lead, working to ensure regulatory compliance, streamline workflow processes, improve consistency among EHS programs and develop EHS knowledge and capabilities within Caerus personnel. Specific programs include; the Emergency Response Program, Hazcom, Gas Monitoring, Safety Training, LOTO, Confined Space, Ground disturbance, Hot Work, Industrial Hygiene, PPE, H2S, Respiratory, Hearing Protection, Contractor Management, and other programs and policies associated with OSHA, state and local regulations. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to, responding to EHS incidents and other health and safety matters, coordinating emergency response, agency notification, general house-keeping facility inspections, assistance with operational matters, and assistance with facility construction matters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Implement the Emergency Response Program, Hazcom, Gas Monitoring, Safety Training, LOTO, Confined Space, Ground disturbance, Hot Work, Industrial Hygiene, PPE, H2S, Respiratory, Hearing Protection, Contractor Management, and Pandemic Preparedness Programs.
- Ensure that Health and Safety programs are in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Develop and implement supporting documentation or record keeping procedures for Programs listed above.
- Direct and review the work of EHS consultants and contractors.
- Promote and work to create positive and professional relationships with applicable agency representatives.
- Create and implement standards and procedure development for Health and Safety programs.
- Prepare training materials relevant to assigned Health and Safety standards, and projects.
- Facilitate implementation of Health and Safety policies and procedures in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Facilitate internal Health and Safety audits.
- Review incident reports and ensure that internal procedures are being followed. Ensure that documents and records associated with Health and Safety incidents, are stored in an organized structure for all team members to access.
- Compile and analyze Health and Safety data to identify performance trends. Communicate trends and lessons learned.
- Act as technical resource for all Health and Safety Programs; supporting regulatory affairs and communicating changes through the EHS organization.
- Evaluate and recommend software tools and perform software support for EHS Manager and other staff.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in the On-Call EHS Incident Response Rotation
- Engage with Operations and all other Caerus staff as subject matter expert to provide clear guidance.
Supervisor Duties
- Does or has the capability of supervising EHS Specialists and Consultants
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or environmental science, or equivalent technical or scientific field, required.
- Professional certification in Occupational Safety and Health, preferred. (i.e. OHST, ASP, CSP etc.)
- Five to Ten years of progressively escalating technical experience in Health and Safety compliance.
- Specific experience within the oil and gas industry in the Rocky Mountain Region is preferred.
- Ability to relate and interact productively with EHS professionals within the oil and gas industry.
- Ability to review new and changing regulations and advise operations on methods for compliance.
Skills & Abilities
- Computer Skills: Exemplary skills in Excel, Power Point, Word, Access, and in use of intranet/internet.
- Business Knowledge: Basic analytical skills, capable of identifying trends in data. Data manipulation and understanding of EHS management system(s).
- Have general knowledge of regulatory environmental and safety compliance issues, specifically recordkeeping requirements. strong knowledge of all regulations affecting safety in the workplace, including those promulgated by or under EPA, OSHA, DOT, Utah Trust Lands Administration Utah Division of Oil, Gas, and Mining, and the Ute Tribe.
- Problem Solving: Identify workflow issues and recommend innovative solutions.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrate interpersonal skills capable of interface daily with management, field and contract personnel in order to build networks within QEP and externally with contractors.

Working Environment
- 50% Normal field office environment and 50% field work. This position requires regular travel in the field.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual Compensation Range:
- $80,000 - $106,000 annually
- Eligible for an annual bonus
