JOB TITLE: Collection Operator (Pump Stations)
JOB STATUS: Non-Exempt Position
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORKPERFORMED:
Manages the daily operation, maintenance, and repairs of the sewer collection systems and pump stations to ensure a safe and efficient transfer of wastewater through the Authority’s distribution systems. Performs work in accordance with all the federal, state and local law, rules and regulations and within mandated and appropriate safety standards. Works with sense of urgency while maintaining safety and quality in all aspects of job performance. Records information and files reports for equipment and maintenance and wastewater flow. Maintains rights of way, building and properties used for the supply, collection and conveyance of wastewater. Performs preventative maintenance task on pumps, blowers, valves, and treatment equipment; prepares treatment chemical solutions; coordinates, completes and inspects repairs, construction and maintenance performed by staff and contractors. Maintains a neat and professional appearance and customer focused approach at all times. Attends classes and studies relevant materials as required, informs management of major problems as they arise.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Technical school or college training in area relating to the work is desirable. Correspondence course work in wastewater treatment and collections is desirable. Previous experience in related work environment highly desirable.
SPECIFIC JOBREQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE
(But are not limited to):
1. Must be a high school graduate (GED acceptable).
2. Wastewater and collection certification or ability to attain within 24 months.
3. CDL/heavy equipment operations a plus.
4. General knowledge of equipment facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater collection and treatment systems.
5. General knowledge of pipe installation, connection and repair.
6. Working knowledge of wastewater, grinder, and sewer pump control panels.
7. Must be extremely reliable and must report to work promptly at the necessary time.
8. Must be able to perform routine calculations and tabulations skillfully and with reasonable speed.
9. Must direct subordinate personnel as required by System Supervisor.
10. Must be able to operate groundskeeping equipment such as a lawn mower and weedeater, operate valves, and work with hand tools for extended periods of time.
11. Must be able to continuously lift and carry medium loads.
12. Must be able to continuously perform heavy physical labor.
13. Must be able to continuously walk and climb stairs.
14. Must be able to work in confined spaces.
15. Must be able to work with chemicals such as chlorine and HTH.
16. Must be able to wear MSA breathing apparatus.
17. Must be insurable on the Authority's auto insurance policy.
18. Must maintain a residence which allows a reasonable response time.
