POWER ELECTRONICS ENGINEER

  • We are seeking a highly motivated Power Electronics Engineer to join our Sensing and Communications Department. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with professional experience in designing, developing, and testing power electronic systems. While we prefer candidates with professional experience beyond 5 years, it may not be required in all circumstances.

    In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the design and development of a wide variety of underwater maritime systems including electromechanical actuation systems, payloads for unmanned underwater vehicles, acoustic communication transceivers, wireless power transfer, and high power acoustic transmit arrays. You will have a proven track record of designing and implementing custom PCBs for prototype R&D systems.

    Responsibilities:

    - Design, develop, integrate, and debug complex power systems

    - Implementing high availability power supplies and/or failover systems

    - Troubleshooting electronic systems

    Qualifications:

    - Experience with power system design consisting of circuit analysis and simulation, component selection, schematic capture, PCB design, and verification testing

    - Design of DC/DC and AC/DC power systems ranging from 500 W to 10 kW for use in harsh operating environments

    - Comprehensive knowledge of electronic power devices such as MOSFETs, Schottky Diodes, SiC FETs, and IGBTs

    - Proven experience designing with electromechanical actuators, DC/DC converters, power amplifiers, and magnetics

    - BS in electrical engineering with a power systems focus

    - Able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

    Desired Attributes and Skills:

    - Prior experience designing electronics for underwater maritime systems

    - Experience working with acoustic transducers

    - Experience with various power converter topologies such as Buck, Boost, Flyback, SEPIC, etc. and their control methodologies

    - Previous experience with or oversight of electronic layout, bill-of-materials, and assembly process

    - Experience with common digital communication schemes (RS232/RS422, I2C, I2S, SPI, McBSP)

    - Basic understanding of signal processing and Matlab data analysis

    - Prior experience creating technical content for new products, ideas, or other business development pursuits

    - Experience working in an R&D environment and working in small multidisciplinary teams

    - Experience mentoring junior EE staff on electronics design, PCB implementation, and board troubleshooting

    - Experience with C/C coding for microcontrollers (or similar) Experience using National Instruments (or similar) data acquisition systems and LabView
