    Generac Clean Energy team is seeking an experienced Engineer II - Power Electronics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to define, develop, test, release, and maintain into production high performance microprocessor-based power converters employed in energy storage subsystems, and switchgear, requiring precise, real-time performance.

    Successful candidates should be passionate about enhancing system performance and continually adding new features and functionality to our family of advanced power electronics products. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a fast-moving internal startup type environment as a team player and self-starter who often takes initiative from within teams to bring projects to completion.     This position is based in South Portland, Maine.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities
    • Design and development of next generation DC/DC and DC/AC power converters for residential PV and battery energy storage applications
    • Evaluate, model, implement, and test advanced, high performance-electronics HW & and FW controls
    • Develop, test, and document designs with appropriate formalism for safety critical applications as described in relevant standards such as UL1741
    • Perform or support PCB layout for your design responsibilities
    • Perform and support analyses to verify the design requirements such as circuit simulation, DFMEA, efficiency, design margin, derating, reliability
    • Plan and perform Design Validation Tests of new designs and revisions
    • Participate in, and at times, lead Design Review of new designs and revisions, including for DFM and DFT

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and 3-5 years of relevant work experience in development and deployment of high-performance DC/DC and DC/AC converters.
    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
    • MS degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in power electronics with minimum 2-4 years of direct experience in power converter development of high-performance DC/AC inverters and DC/DC converters
    • Prior experience in developing power converters for DC/DC converters, motor drives, uninterruptable power supplies, solar inverters etc.
    • Experienced in designing custom magnetics for power high frequency converters.
    • Prior experience in EMI evaluation and testing of power converters
    • High density PCB layout experience with an emphasis on EMI mitigations. Altium experience is preferred but is not required.
    • Experience with test equipment typically used for power converter development such as high-performance oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, etc.
    • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, design and test complex electronic circuits.
    • Prior experience with Microsemi PIC microprocessor family, as well as advanced DSP processors from TI such as the TMS320F family is desirable.
    • Prior experience with the implementation of Distributed Energy Resources such as Solar/PV Inverters or Wind Turbines is desirable.
    • Grid interconnect requirements experience
    • Familiarity with third party certification and testing (e.g. NRTL, environmental)
    Physical demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally be ready to lift loads as large as 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include actions typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position will require occasional travel, including internationally.
